Essentials of Managing Office Politics

Stonewalling, passive-aggression, sabotage, conflict, spin doctoring…

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRG!

Are office politics hindering your ability to get things done? Do you find that you’re spending more time managing perceptions than managing accomplishments? Would you like to know how to use office politics as a tool rather than fending it off as a weapon?

Many of us allow ourselves to become victims of office politics without realizing a game is being played.  Some of us play office politics without realizing we are doing it. Office politics exist in virtually every organization from large corporations, small businesses, not-for-profits, schools, churches, and professional associations. Any place where two or more people are involved in trying to achieve something is where you will find office politics.

This workshop is intended to provide you with the tools to identify and manage office politics situations more effectively. Leveraging the techniques from the book, GUST – The “Tale” Wind of Office Politics, this workshop will show you how to:

  • Identify the game being played and also what is being manipulated: resources, information, or people
  • Understand the types of politicians, their motivations, and use of power and influence to get a better grasp of your specific office politics situation
  • Create a workable strategy for handling your office politics challenges… a strategy that is tailored to you and your situation rather than a blanket theory
  • Take action in an effective way using timing, information, perceptions and interpersonal alliances to your advantage

Using real world examples and discussions, we will discuss your corporate culture and the players with whom you must interact. You will come away with workable action plans that you can implement when you return to your office.

If seizing your accomplishment means learning how to better manage your office politics challenges more effectively, then this workshop is for you!
